PTA Meeting Minutes - April 2, 2008

Call to Order: President Jenifer Lechtman called the meeting to order at 12:03 pm.

Attendance: Jenifer Lechtman, Vanessa Ross, Sharon Helpio, Debbie Owens, Jen Greenall, Cindy Terry, Shannon Bangi, David Raymond, Robyn Batchman, Mike Rook, Beckie Ivey, Julie Acquafresca, Kathryn Krikorian, Laurie Robinson, Karen Roebuck, Ashley Wolfe, Monica Rook, Lisa Glass, Katie Hobbs, Amy Denison, Samantha Tate, Joan Kingsford, Kristina Vizzolini, Ann Brodersen, Tracey Keavy, Lynn Peters, Johanna Washam, Lindsay Folmer.

Approval of Minutes: The minutes were read and a correction was noted. The price for the Royal Oaks Visalia Oaks Family Game Night tickets are $5. The minutes were approved with the change by Lynn Peters and seconded by Debbie Owens.

Treasurer Report: Kristina Vizzolini presented a list of checks to ratify and bills to pay and a motion was made by Lynn Peters and seconded by Lisa Glass and approved by everyone in attendance. The monthly transactions were from 3/11/08 through 4/2/08. The PTA balance as of 4/2/08 is $42,585.51.

Old Business: Dr. Seuss day was a great success. Katie Hobbs and Michelle Felsted did a fantastic job. Katie thanked everyone for their help and had some new ideas for next year. The estimated profit from Dr. Seuss Day was $580.09. Ordering more hats and a variety of hats for next year and limiting the number of tickets sold for the breakfast was suggested by Katie. Katie and Michelle have volunteered to chair the event again next year.

The Scholarship Review Committee has 15 essays to read from local High School applicants. The committee will report next month and the recipients of the scholarships will be announced.

New Business: The 2008-2009 PTA Board nominations were restated: President-Jennifer Greenall, VP Programs-Joan Kingsford, VP Membership-Debbie Owens and Kathryn Krikorian, Secretary-Vanessa Ross, Treasurer-Robyn Batchman, Auditor-Lisa Glass, Historian-Elise Cavagnaro and Parliamentarian-Jenifer Lechtman. The floor was opened for additional nominees and none were presented. The presented board was elected.

Moms and Muffins will be held on Friday, May 2 at 7:15 A.M. Lynn Peters asked for dad volunteers to help.

Teacher Appreciation week will be May 5 through May 9. There will be some changes from last year. A volunteer sign-up sheet was passed around to ask for help bringing snacks for teachers. There will be a grab and go day for teachers to have snacks, fruit and flowers day, cookie day and a Teacher Luncheon. Students will be asked to bring school supplies and make a card for their teacher.

Jog-a-thon will be on Friday, May 9. It starts at 8:20 am and finishes by 10:30 am. Three tracks will be set-up and the students will jog/walk for 30 minutes. Radio Disney dj's will be playing music during the jog-a-thon. A donation for popsicles was requested. Parent volunteers will be needed to keep tallies for laps ran by students. If the air quality is unhealthy for that day children will walk the track in the morning.

The Big Basket Bonanza (Tricky Tray) is on schedule to take place on May 15, same night as Open House. Notes will be sent home requesting items for each class basket. Karen Forrest needs volunteers for the event and to sell raffle tickets for baskets.

Royal Oaks and Visalia Oaks Family Game Night will be held on Friday, May 30. It is an evening game and tickets are $5. Tickets will be sold on Open House Night and one week before the game. There will be 200 tickets for purchase.

Water Play Day (formerly known as Water Olympics) will be on June 3. It will follow same format as last year. David Raymond has volunteered to help Mr. Rook and Vanessa Ross will coordinate parent volunteers for K-2 grade. A volunteer sign up sheet will be available on the PTA website.

Jenifer Lechtman presented the PTA Council Report regarding the state PTA's position on the budget cuts to take place on education. The state PTA has given the proposed budget cuts an "F". PTA members can help by e-mailing state legislators on designated Fridays letting them know we do not accept the budget cuts regarding children’s education. Principal’s Report: Mrs. Tate announced Jenifer Lechtman has been nominated for the Hall of Fame award. The event will take place on April 21 at Redwood High School. STAR testing starts on April 15, testing days will be Tues.-Thurs. in the mornings. We have donations from Odwalla and Producers during STAR testing days. PTA will purchase snacks and trays to serve. Dates to remember: SSC meeting-April 8, April 10-GATE grant meeting, May 1-Science Night, May 10-GATE parent trip, April 4-Track Meet at Mineral King Bowl at 6pm. Thirty students from Royal Oaks will participate in the Science Olympiad on April 12 at El Diamante.
